Jalen Jones Wins the StatSheet C-USA Freshman of the Week - February 6th, 2012

Memphis's Joe Jackson has won the StatSheet C-USA Player of the Week award for the week ending February 6th. StatSheet's C-USA Freshman of the Week goes to Jalen Jones. Also, Memphis's Joe Jackson takes home StatSheet's C-USA 6th Man of the Week. Jackson had big numbers in rebounding (2.5 per game), scoring (14 pts per game), and assists (5.5 per game). The Memphis sophomore played well in a win against Xavier and a loss to Southern Miss.

Jackson contributed 3 assists and 66% shooting in 18 minutes in a 75-72 loss to Southern Miss. He followed that up by leading the team in scoring with 14 points plus an additional 8 assists in a narrow 72-68 win over Xavier.

This is the first StatSheet C-USA Player of the Week award for Joe Jackson. However, he has received multiple honorable mentions. The runner-up this week is Darnell Dodson, a senior from Southern Miss. Honorable mention goes to junior LaShay Page from Southern Miss.

StatSheet C-USA Freshman of the Week: Southern Methodist's Jalen Jones

Jalen Jones was on the floor an average of 29 minutes as a starter for Southern Methodist. He led all C-USA freshmen in free throws (5.5 per game). In a 62-43 loss to East Carolina, Jones led all scoring and rebounding for the Mustangs with 11 and 8 respectively. Following that in a 59-52 loss to UCF, he led scoring with 16 points on 66% shooting.

This is a first for Jalen Jones, who has never won the StatSheet C-USA Freshman of the Week. The runner-up is Ricky Tarrant from Tulane. Honorable mention goes to Julian Washburn from Texas-El Paso.

StatSheet C-USA 6th Man of the Week: Memphis's Joe Jackson

Joe Jackson, a 6-1 Sophomore guard, played an average of 24 minutes over the two games for the Tigers. In the loss to Southern Miss, Jackson put up 3 assists and 66% shooting. Then in the win over Xavier, he led all scoring with 14 points and added 8 assists.

This is the first StatSheet C-USA 6th Man of the Week honor for Joe Jackson. Darnell Dodson, a senior guard from Southern Miss, is the runner up. Neil Watson, a sophomore guard from Southern Miss, receives honorable mention. Southern Methodist players have not yet been named StatSheet C-USA Player of the Week this season.
